It wouldn't be hard to argue against the fact that the last couple of seasons have seen a remarkable amount of growth in our perch stocks, in terms of both size and numbers of fish being caught. It wasn’t that long ago that a two pounder was seen as a specimen – now, three and even four pounders are more commonplace and there are regular reports and pictures of fish over 5lb. Richard Walker described perch as ‘the biggest of all fishes’, and we can only imagine what he might think of the current catches from our rivers and lakes.
