ROAD TESTING BY NUMBERS
Fastest, heaviest, priciest, widest… our 2023 road test data reveals all. Illya Verpraet crunches the numbers
Another year has passed and that means another 49 cars have met our timing gear. There was a Class Atall ship as well, but the logistics of getting that to Millbrook Proving Ground were sadly beyond us. Put another way, that’s 95 tonnes and £3,881,735 of car (let’s forget the ship for now).
The 2022 performance hero was the Ferrari 296 GTB, whose hybridised V6 let it leave behind everything else in a straight line – and in the corners, for that matter. However, 2023’s fastest-accelerating car bettered that, and every other car we’ve ever tested. With its three electric motors putting out a total of 1020bhp, the Tesla Model S Plaid managed to accelerate to 60mph in a shorter time (2.39sec) than it took to stop from 60mph (2.44sec).
