Working in the heart of a city with all the accompanying hustle and bustle, it can be hard to find a place to de-stress. I opted for lunchtime exercise to flood my body with moodboosting endorphins. However, I marvelled at a colleague who always managed to return to the office floating on air without going anywhere near a gym. Asking how she managed to obtain a state of nirvana without breaking a sweat produced a surprising answer. She was spending her break up to her armpits in mud on the River Thames foreshore looking for leftover history – in other words practising the ancient art of mudlarking. Not only was she calm and ready to face whatever the afternoon would throw at us, she often had a little treasure trove of discoveries to showcase.
