Huge rise in SIM-swap scams
What’s the threat?
Criminals are becoming better at SIM-swap fraud, allowing them to steal your online identity. First, the scammer gains some data onyou the victim, usually through a phishing scam or by buying leaked databases on the dark web.
They then phone your network and impersonate you in order to transfer your number on to a SIM card they own. Next, they intercept calls and texts to this number, including two-factor authentication codes, letting them sign into your bank account and other sensitive services. They can also access your emails and even commit fraud in your name.
