Dancing Times  |  May 2017
In this issue of Dancing Times, I am delighted to announce that we are launching a new column to stand alongside our regulars, Jack Anderson in New York and Igor Stupnikov in St Petersburg. In FRANCE/dance, each month Laura Cappelle will be primarily focusing on Paris, but also reporting on performances and dance events from elsewhere in France. In her first instalment, Laura concentrates on the appearance of the Paris Opéra Ballet School at the Palais Garnier, alongside a number of other well-known vocational schools, including our own Royal Ballet School.
The month of May also means the Blackpool Dance Festival in the annual dance calendar, and in this issue we meet Latin dancer Maurizio Vescovo, find out what it is like to be a “dance extra” in Away, a new feature film set in Blackpool, and discover more about pioneering medal tests in Salsa. In addition, we review dance performances taking place in the UK and across the globe, including the openings of the dance-packed West End musicals An American in Paris and 42nd Street. There’s a lot to read; we hope you enjoy it.
