Locking the doors on a car may seem simple, but it’s a critical vehicle security feature
A f you’re lucky enough to drive, then you’ll almost certainly just click a button on your key fob to lock and unlock the car – and if you’re not old enough to drive yet, then you’ve probably seen other people do it. Either way, this car lock technology is now so commonplace that we don’t even think about it. But if you do think about it, you’ll find plenty of surprising history behind this common car feature.
We think about central locking as a relatively modern addition to car security, but the first car with this innovation appeared way back in 1914, and it emerged again in the 1950s. After that, it still took decades for this technology to become a recognisable mainstay feature.
