Highland councillors gathering in Inverness today (Thursday) will be asked to approve a proposed rise of three per cent in Council Tax to help tackle a budget gap over the next three years of L60million.
The rise is part of The Highland Council’s proposed revenue budget for 2019/20 to 2021/22 and includes a programme aimed at delivering L37.456m in savings over the three years. The Council Tax rise would generate an additional L3.602m for local authority coffers and comes on the heels of the last financial year’s three per cent rise.
The council does have the flexibility, under the Scottish Government’s revenue grant settlement, to increase Council Tax by 4.79 per cent but says it recognises the demands this would place on taxpayers.
