The Cape of Good Hope – the peninsula for which one of ‘Rainbow Nation’ South Africa’s three capitals was named – was once known as the Cape of Storms. Centuries later, this renaming stands as a poignant allegory for where the city is today. Cape Town has weathered turbulent storms in its past – more recently exacerbated by a tempestuous pandemic – but yet it stands as a beacon of good hope and progress, not just for South Africa but for the entire continent.

Cape Town and its surrounds are far from unfamiliar destinations for OutThere travellers. We arrive, leave and return enraptured by the region’s awe-striking natural beauty. But equally (if not more so) exciting is the explosive melting pot and fusion of cultures that defines this rapidly diversifying, modern city. The allure of the Mother City is thankfully no longer just skin deep. We say this of course, without denying that the institutional challenges around race – and with that social mobility – still require a great deal of work today, over thirty years after Apartheid ended. But it no longer feels – at least to us as outsiders – that equality is insurmountable.

This energy is inherent in the other destinations that we visit in this issue, from Nashville to Mykonos, Austria to Finnish Lapland, Malta to Tuscany. They are all contrasting in their locations and cultures, but united in the quest for a bright tomorrow. Let’s not waste any more time getting back OutThere.

OutThere is a multi-award-winning luxury travel and experiential travel journal for what is a large, global audience of travellers who identify with our core values of diversity, discovery and discernment. We aim to be the leading voice of inclusivity in luxury and experiential travel, telling stories with an intersectional and inclusive lens, from the perspective of passionate and diverse storytellers (Experientialist®s) who represent the travellers who seek a heightened level of personalisation and belonging when they head out into the world: simply because of who they are, how they identify, who they’re travelling with and who they love. We also share the stories and vision of minorities in the travel space, who are creating unique adventures that celebrate and bring to life the history and richness of the communities that they are part of.

We celebrate the many fascinating expressions of global travel, from amazing destinations to luxurious hotels and resorts to unique, one-of-a-kind experiences. Moreover, we look at journeys that extend beyond the act of travelling itself – featuring Arts, fashion, design, style and the people behind them – interspersed with strong personal stories, great photography, industry voices, inside tracks and in-depth features – that will inspire your next journey.
