ENCYCLOPAEDIA HAWKWINDIA – AN UNAUTHORISED COMPENDIUM
Dave Thompson LULU
A book for Hawkwind freaks.
Casual Hawkwind listeners who enjoy the music but have little interest in the detail behind it will doubtless be bored by Dave Thompson’s mammoth A-to-Z covering every song, bandmember, festival appearance and so much more that’s connected to the Hawkwind universe. But the painstakingly compiled, near-600-page Encyclopaedia Hawkwindia will be an essential addition to the bookshelves of devotees who relish the prospect of wandering deep through the minutiae of the veteran space rockers’ storied 50-plus-year career. Like any traditional encyclopaedia, it’s not the kind of book to sit down and study for hours, but instead it’s one that benefits from dipping into on specific occasions. Thompson has carried out around 70 interviews for the project, and his devotion to the subject is unquestioned, but it must also be mentioned that the text is very dry, which may put a few folk off.
