Renovation fatigue may not be an actual medical condition, but the problem is real. ‘In 2020, this has been even harder as we have had to balance other work, schooling, lack of supplies and trades as well as uncertainty - the physical strain as well as the mental one is greater than ever before,’ says Andrew Briggs, head of creative at Spaceslide (spaceslide.co. uk). If you’ve taken on a project that’s merrily rumbling past six months, chances are you’re a victim of this painful ailment. The symptoms are varied, but include: 1) refusal to even look at a paintbrush, let alone pick one up, 2) an irrational dread of all builders/ trades entering your home, 3) a fervent desire to sell up and move into a freshly completed new-build, despite loathing new-builds and your building site of a house currently being worth around 96p. If you’re struggling with the monotony of having builders in your house, everything covered in dust and no end in sight, it could be time to reframe the situation and seek coping mechanisms that will help power you through. Ideally before you have to sign up for AA or accidentally murder a spouse.
