A previously off-centre fireplace has been widened to make it symmetrical, with a charcoal feature wall tying together the new shelves and chimney breast. The whitewashed green oak beam has sentimental value as it came from Tom’s late uncle, who built his own house in Cornwall. ‘We added a new log burner because the previous one was too small for the room,’ says Calista. ‘We spend a lot of time in here – we love the open feel.’
