The Woodworker Magazine

Nov-24 It’s goodbye from us... After an incredible 120-year journey, it’s with a heavy heart that we must finally announce the closure of The Woodworker. While I can only lay claim to have being involved in a small part of the magazine’s long heritage, my time as editor was incredibly enjoyable and it’s difficult to see how another publication could ever come close. Thank you all, and farewell from myself and the team - Tegan. PROJECTS & TURNING * Lutelele - blending tradition & innovation Named a ‘Compostellan Lute’ by renowned luthier Ronald Zachary Taylor, Shaun Newman shares his take on this interesting stringed instrument along with the steps involved in its making. * Routing on the lathe – part 2 Last month, Colin Simpson showed you how to construct a simple cradle to facilitate routing of lathe-mounted work. This month, he uses it to make a small bowl and routs the rim to resemble flower petals before adding a splash of colour. * New home, new workshop – part 3 In the final part of his workshop build, Phil Davy paints the shed exterior, fits dedicated security and shelvin. And much more... FEATURES * The Woodworker – a personal tribute Having written his first magazine article back in 1972, Jeremy Broun reflects on 123 years of The Woodworker and mourns its sad demise. * Rise of the Designers Phil Whitfeld explores the impact of the dedicated designer on English furniture. * Woodworkers of Amberley William Gibson pays a visit to Amberley Museum’s Greenwood Village and meets a number of different woodworking heritage craftspeople, all of whom ply their trades and demonstrate these dying skills. * Welcome to the beautiful world of green woodworking Offering something for anyone who wants to learn how to carve small, useful, beautiful wooden utensils from green wood, this new book by Harald Lamon is delightful for two main reasons, as Peter Scaife discusses. And much more...
