My vegan life Emma Purvey

I am a British actress and model living in NYC. My vegan journey started at age 14, in my childhood home just outside Cambridge, England. All I knew then was that red meat was fattening – my knowledge really didn’t extend past that. The traditional Sunday roast was a ritual in my family, so this was quite a radical choice in our household. This slowly evolved into cutting out poultry. The most significant change happened when I cut out dairy. I was living in Miami Beach, working as a model with the prestigious Michele Pommier Models. Although dairy was not a huge part of my diet and I’d already erased milk as a teenager, I did indulge in a weekly late night four cheese pizza (gasp…I know). I’m now a lover of cashew cheese.

I noticed significant differences, including a more even skin tone, glowing skin, my body leaning out effortlessly and I was even more energized. Overall I felt lighter, in weight and energy. Fish was the last thing to go, mainly because I loved sushi (which is so unhealthy, despite me thinking otherwise at the time). I started to eat less and less fish. The cleaner my body became, the easier it was to reject anything that did not fully support it. I had grown into a happy vegan and it is the most empowering choice I have ever made. My body thanks me daily.
