Young writers and artists aged 7-18 and living in Scotland are invited to submit to the free to enter Amazing Animals, Brilliant Science competition which is being funded by the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, Heritage Lottery Fund and Scottish Natural Heritage. There will be 24 prizes plus certificates awarded across four age categories and the winners will see their work used to illustrate a book which will show how DNA technology is being used to help protect Scottish wildlife. The winners will also be invited to an awards ceremony at Edinburgh Zoo in October 2017.
There are three categories in which entries can be submitted: for poems, max 250 words; for short stories, max 500 words; for drawings or paintings. There are pictures of twelve animals on the website and each entry must feature one, or more, of these animals.
Poems and stories can be funny or sad, have a happy or a sad ending, be fictional or factual and can include human characters. Submissions can be a doc or txt file. Neatly handwritten entries will be considered. All entries must be original, the entrant’s own work and must not have been submitted to any other competition.
