Well Being Journal  |  Jan/Feb 2019
Sometimes when you want to help another by shoring
up their weakness with your strength, you help
them not. Yet, it’s easy to say that we all need to understand
others’ frustrations, fears, and difficulties, hoping this
will bring more peace. Who, you reason, can feel fully fed
if one other is hungry, and who can feel truly wealthy if one
other lives in poverty? And, isn’t there a fine line between
helping and hindering? You wouldn’t want to feather another’s
nest, only to find that, like the butterfly whose wings
were compromised because someone helped it emerge from
its cocoon, you had interfered with another’s ability to fly on
their own. You have to be aware that you might take incentive
away from another by giving too much.
