Dashcams
No matter how carefully you drive, you can’t always account for the actions of others. We test five gadgets that put the guilty party in the frame, should the worst happen
TESTING PROCESS
It’s no wonder that dashcams are so popular. The footage they record can be handy in the event of an accident; it can show exactly what happened from your point of view. This could help to prove that you weren’t at fault, or it could assist when fighting a fraudulent claim.
Dashcams can also be useful when the car is unattended. Some can operate as live security cameras, and can even start recording when they detect an impact, such as a break-in attempt or another vehicle hitting your car.
We tested five dashcams across a range of price points, assessing each unit for ease of use, features and image quality. The latter was tested in a variety of weather conditions, both during the day and at night. The final scores were weighted by value for money.
