Looking back over 45 years of Wild, of community, inspiration, education and love of the natural world.
Two hundred issues of Wild is a big deal, even just in terms of longevity: The magazine was first published in the map-and-compass days, survived the internet revolution and the introduction of GPS technology, and is now a source of quality human stories in this time of AI track notes. This longer time frame gives the chance to reflect, to change focus, and to see a different picture. It's like comparing your first view of a wild area with the same outlook after years of visits. Initially you see mysterious peaks and valleys, bush and crags and shadows. Later you see it differently: The landscape is full of stories, history and connections, adding more meaning, more substance. It's a deeper context, with more feeling. For me, the feeling of Wild after 200 issues is of optimistic, steadfast care.
