Hello!
ISSUE 188 || AUGUST 2025
A man who ran lots of marathons once told me that he didn’t see the point of half marathons. He said he didn’t understand why anyone would want to do half of something.
Of course I immediately wanted to tell him to check his privilege – how many women did he know had the luxury of the time it takes to train for a marathon? How many women felt like they deserved to take space on the startline of a marathon? How many women felt as though their negative experience with PE at school meant they doubted their ability to increase their fitness to run 26 miles? Ugh, all those things you wish you’d said, right? (Of course, I actually said something like, “ha ha, yes, half a marathon, pff!” or something like that. Angry feminist inside, pathetic people-pleaser outside – must work on that…)
