Moderate drinking could lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases – and even be better for you than not drinking alcohol at all.
Researchers at the University of Cambridge and University College London discovered drinking around oneandahalf bottles of wine or seven pints of lager a week may have health benefits. The study, published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), found that, in comparison to heavy drinkers and nondrinkers, moderate drinkers (21 units per week for men and 14 units for women) were less likely to have a first episode of a range of heart and vascular diseases.
