Within two days of the announcement of the result of the US election on 5 November, several books notably soared up the Amazon bestseller listings, writes Gary Dalkin.
Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, set in a future Republic of Gilead in which women are little more than property, climbed over 400 places to number 3, with Nineteen Eighty-four by George Orwell quickly taking the number 16 slot.
In non-fiction although Kamala Harris’ The Truths We Hold languished at number 345, Melania: A Memoir by Melania Trump topped the non-fiction chart, and Hillbilly Elegy by vice president elect J.D. Vance rose to number 7.
