Ripon Writers’ Group
North Yorkshire based Ripon Writers’ Group meets on alternate Tuesday evenings throughout the year at the Old Deanery, just across the road from Ripon Cathedral, to share our work and offer feedback, writes Maggie Cobbett. Published or as yet unpublished, we all write for pleasure.
Our interests include poetry, drama, prose (fiction and nonfiction) and song writing. In addition to our regular themed and members’ manuscript evenings, we invite guest speakers, run four competitions annually with external adjudicators, hold an all day workshop once a year, enjoy social events such as the lunch in the photo and organise occasional outings to places that may prompt ideas for writing. For example, in recent years we have toured the Georgian Theatre in Richmond, spent a day in Hull when it was City of Culture and had a hands on session at a local pottery. We also take part in the annual Ripon Poetry Festival.
