Poems in practice
Make change for the best with advice from Doris Corti
Are you trying to workshop your poems? It may be painful to change some words or perhaps remove one, but it is sometimes necessary to do this. Possibly you may change some words as you go along, reading a line as you complete it.
Another method is to finish the poem as best you can and put it out of sight for a day or two. When you read it again read it aloud – every line. You will immediately hear where a word is too long. Perhaps you have used too many syllables in this line?
