Trijet memory hits a loud note
Dear Editor, Thank you for the excellent feature on Balkan Bulgarian Airlines in the August edition. It brought back fantastic memories from my childhood and reminded me of my only experience with Balkan on a 154. I have attached a photo of Tu-154, TZ-BTW on which we returned to Manchester from Bourgas in the summer of 1993. What resonates with me is the deafening noise of the three engines and the general personality of the aircraft. I remember being amazed that the overhead lockers didn’t have any doors on them, it was akin to being on a train. I was also lucky to get a glimpse of the ‘green’ cockpit that was a typical trait of Russian-built aircraft back in the day.
