ANNIE CONWAY showed no particular sporting talent at school and when she started running seriously five or six years ago she initially “just tagged along for support” to keep her husband company in training, writes Jason Henderson.
But last Saturday in Slovenia she became Britain’s latest world champion when she won the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships.
In a gruelling four-and-ahalf-hour race, the Ambleside AC runner, who turned 35 this week, surged through from about fifth or sixth place at halfway to pick off her rivals one by one before finally passing leader Antonella Confortola of Italy with 3km to go.
