W LONG JUMP
THE HEPTATHLON in Rio is going to be one of the most intriguing Olympic events.
Jessica Ennis-Hill goes into the Games as the defending champion but Brianne Theisen-Eaton is the reigning world pentathlon champion and has the best heptathlon mark in the world this year, while Katarina Johnson-Thompson showed in London she is back in the kind of form that made her world No.1 in 2014 and earned the 23-year-old a European pentathlon title in 2015.
What a showdown it promises to be and the action in London last weekend only served to increase the anticipation.
The day after clearing an outdoor PB in the high jump on the first day of the Diamond League, ‘KJT’ produced a consistent series of marks in the long jump, led by her winning leap of 6.84m in the fourth round – her second furthest ever outdoor jump after her 6.92m PB from 2014 (she has also jumped 6.93m indoors).
