Megan Mullally
SHE GOT ALL THE KILLER LINES AS KAREN WALKER IN WILL & GRACE BUT BEFORE REPRISING THE ROLE, MEGAN MULLALLY IS IN THE UK FOR HER FIRST CONCERT IN SEVEN YEARS — AS ONE HALF OF THE BAND NANCY & BETH
OBAMA’S VICE-PRESIDENT Joe Biden once said: “I think Will & Grace probably did more to educate the American public [on gay people] than almost anything anybody has done so far.” That might have been slightly over-egging the pudding, and more than a few people found the show’s depiction of gay men a bit stereotyped, but there’s no denying that, over eight seasons Will, Grace, Jack and Karen brought gay lives kicking and screaming into the mainstream like never before.
The show might have revolved around Will Truman and his best friend Grace Adler, but in reality every character toppled under the mighty presence of Karen Walker.
A domineering, caustic, hilariously self-absorbed multi-millionairess, Karen bagged actor Megan Mullally two Emmys, four Screen Actors Guild awards and four Golden Globe nominations.
“Doesn’t everybody have a part of them that wishes they could say whatever the fuck they wanted without having to worrying about it?” Mullally says.
We’ll have to wait a little longer for more of Karen. But in the meantime you can catch Mullally in concert with Stephanie Hunt, for Nancy & Beth, an evening of musical mayhem in support of their brilliant new album.
