Mexican wave
PRESIDENT TRUMP MAY BE READY TO BUILD A WALL AROUND THE COUNTRY BUT THAT WON’T KEEP OUT ATTITUDE’S INTREPID TRAVEL EDITOR. MARKUS BIDAUX, WITH BOYFRIEND IN TOW FOR THEIR FIRST HOLIDAY TOGETHER, SPILLS THE BEANS ON MEXICO
MARKUS BIDAUX
Tacos, sombreros, the cartoon mouse Speedy Gonzales — oh, and the baddie in The Magnificent Seven. That’s about the sum of my knowledge of Mexico. So when I got the offer of a trip to review the Banyan Tree Mayakoba hotel, in Quintana Roo, I couldn’t believe my luck. When I was told I could take my significant other along, I felt as if I’d won the lottery.
I’d been dating Leigh for six months and we were in need of a little sunshine, so we packed our bags and caught an 11-hour flight to Cancun for our first holiday together.
We were seated apart on the plane, but every couple of hours we would meet by the loos for a chat. I could not have been less concerned about travelling with my new fella as we can’t go a day without seeing each other at home.
When we arrived, we were glad to be greeted by a driver with my name on a sign who quickly whisked us away in the hotel’s airport transfer, complete with cold face towels, bottled water and the all-important in-car WiFi.
