FILM OF THE MONTH
THÉO AND HUGO
Geoffrey Couët, François Nambot, Mario Fanfani
→ Beginning with an 18-minute-long gay orgy, Théo and Hugo is unlike any film you’ve seen before — well, at your local cinema anyway. Shining a light on Paris’ sex scene, this drama is an unexpected take on love at first sight as Théo (Couët) and Hugo (Nambot, see p25) meet at a sex club and realise, during intercourse, that they have a special connection. The two then spend the night wandering across the French capital, getting to know each other. Théo and Hugo dans la même bateau (in the same boat), to give the film its full title, opens out the meanings of love and sex and how they can mean different things to different people, as well as exploring important issues such as unprotected sex and HIV. Directors Olivier Ducastel (Born in 68) and Jacques Martineau (The Adventures of Felix) have created a beautiful piece of LGBT+ cinema.
