The strength of the market for Far Eastern banknotes was demonstrated at Dix Noonan Webb on October 3 when prices soared for notes from China, Malaya and British North Borneo, Hong Kong and Singapore. The highest price of the day was £40,000, paid by a Chinese bidder for this Bank of Taiwan Fifty Yen in silver dating from 1901. This note, the largest denomination in this series, is stamped mi-hon (sample) twice either side.
