Classic Car Buyer  |  No.203 Clubs Take Centre Stage
The weather is getting colder, windier and damper, the clocks have gone back and it’s now getting dark while I’m still at work. It’s all a wee bit depressing really. Ah well, never mind, at least there’s the NEC Classic Motor Show to look forward to! There are many events that have classic cars at the heart of the proceedings that I look forward to each year, from the likes of the Goodwood Revival to Race Retro and the Bromley Pageant to some of the smaller local car shows that take place in and around where I live in South Lincolnshire, but without doubt the Classic Motor Show is my favourite. Why? Well, it’s all down to the car clubs really. Each year there is something completely different to feast your eyes on. Anniversaries play a big role when it comes to these sorts
of displays as there is always some sort of milestone that a club catering for one of the larger marques (MG, Triumph, Jaguar and so on) is celebrating, but the broad ‘theme’ that’s chosen by the
organisers often throws up some entertaining costumes for those manning the stands – I remember
a theme from a couple of years ago being ‘family’ and it was interpreted in a number of different ways, with the Capri Club recreating a family holiday on the beach and the Lancia Motor Club dressing up as Mafioso! This year’s theme of ‘classics reunited’ should mean for some similarly interesting displays. Our news story on page six gives you some idea of what you can expect.
This week’s issue is bigger than usual – a whole 88 pages in fact – with plenty to entertain all sorts of classic car fans. One such feature is intended to arm those who are perhaps attending the Classic
Motor Show for the first time, and are considering owning their first classic, all the info they’ll need to
make an educated decision on what they should buy.
