What’s All the Fuss About...
ChromeOS Flex
Google throws a short-lived lifeline to Windows 10 users
What is it?
A lightweight version of Google’s ChromeOS designed to run on older Windows PCs and Macs that don’t have the specifications to run modern operating systems. You can’t download traditional desktop software on it – instead you run the Chrome browser and use online tools (see main screenshot).
So it’s similar to the operating system on Chromebooks?
It looks and behaves much the same, but there’s no Google Play Store and so it can’t run Android apps. It also lacks Google’s special security chip in Chromebooks that prevents malware loading when you boot or a thief hacking into the hardware to steal your data.
