The expert guide to… CANNED DRINKS
It’s hard to miss the growing trend for canned wines and cocktails, with so many tins gleaming and glinting at us on the shelves. It’s about time, as there are many benefits to buying drinks in cans.
Convenience, for one, because cans are so portable (spring hikes and picnics beckon…) and eco credentials for another - a can is much lighter than glass to transport and infinitely recyclable once finished.
A can might also mean less waste if you only want one drink without opening a whole bottle, and it does away with the need for a corkscrew. You might even dispense with a glass, though I tend to pour my canned drinks into one anyway, perhaps through force of habit and perhaps because the sensation of a can on the lips isn’t quite as nice.
The quality of the drinks going into cans has improved hugely in the past couple of years. Now it’s easy to find decent wines and cocktails in this, er, canny little container - I taste-tested two dozen and here are my favourites.
