Your views on everything going on in the hectic world of Doctor Who...

Happy new year! Our inbox is bulging with all the messages you’ve sent about the last series. Let’s start by going back to Trap Street and the moment Clara had to Face the Raven...

Getting the Bird

CORY EADSON EMAIL

Well Doctor Who, you’ve done it again. Face the Raven was one of the most genuinely shocking episodes I‘ve watched since the series returned in 2005. Yes, we all knew that the episode was going to be Clara’s final bow (well, until she donned that rather pretty blue dress in the finale). Yes, we knew that the episode was all about ‘facing the raven’. But I honestly didn’t expect her to be killed off.

Since her first appearance back in 2012, Jenna Coleman has been utterly fantastic as Clara (and her various splinters scattered across time). An utterly likeable character portrayed by a charming actress, it was completely heartbreaking to watch her die. But my goodness, what a goodbye speech she got. Both Coleman and Capaldi were beautifully understated, and when Clara said, “I know it’s going to hurt you, but... please... be a little proud of me,” it felt like she was talking to me. Yes Clara, after travelling by your side on all manner of adventures through time and space for the last three years, it is going to hurt to say goodbye. But my goodness, I am so proud of you.

I’m not going to lie, I cried. Face the Raven is definitely one of my favourite episodes of this series, because we really got to see the great relationship Clara has with the Doctor, and Rigsy – arguably the best new character from the last series – came back. The whole ‘street’ also looked very magical!

Face the Raven was one of the most imaginative, compelling and tragic Doctor Who stories I have ever seen. The script was so cleverly constructed; it was packed with humour and instantly engaging supporting characters. I think writer Sarah Dollard did Clara Oswald proud by making her one of the bravest companions, facing up to her own death and reminding the Doctor who he is. Peter and Jenna have always delivered exemplary performances, and their last scene together was heart-rending.

So, what about Heaven Sent...?
