The British Horse Society (BHS) has reached a landmark halfway point in its bid to save public bridleways from being wiped off the map. As a result of 1,500 applications to save bridleways and byways across the UK, the charity inches closer to achieving its target of 2,700 applications by the end of 2022. The wide scale initiative, funded by Sport England, is in response to the Countryside and Rights of Way Act passed in 2000, which stated that any bridleways that are unrecorded on the definitive map by 2026 will vanish forever. The BHS is still urging volunteers to come forward as time is running out. So, if there’s a local bridleway you want to save, find out how to submit an application at bhs.org.uk
