IT IS PRETTY MUCH an open secret—Nvidia is preparing to launch three ‘Super’ versions of the 4000-series: the RTX 4080, 4070 Ti, and 4070. This will plug some gaps in the 4000-series range, and address the pricing bands. The branding is odd, as Nvidia has used either ‘Ti’ or ‘Super’ as indicators of upgraded versions. Here, it will use both on the RTX 4070 Ti Super, as leaked box art shows. Rumors of a 20GB 4080 Super appear misguided—it’ll sport a full AD103 GPU, so gains 512 cores. The 4070 Ti Super gets an AD103 chip too, and more VRAM at 16GB, while the 4070 Super gets an extra 1,280 cores—enough of an upgrade to warrant a 20W increase in power requirements. Pricing will be key, as Nvidia has made a mess previously, losing middle ground to AMD cards. These cards are a chance to redress that. –CL
