Nutmeg  |  Issue 39
Welcome to The World Cup Issue.
The dim afternoons are over; the floodlights saw us through. Up pop flowers and with them thoughts of the delectable summer ahead. Scotland at the World Cup? We like the sound of that.
For about five minutes we considered business as usual for this issue of Nutmeg – the regular entertaining blend of stories club, country and otherwise. Then we thought about McTominay’s overhead kick, the 28-year gap and the sentimental glow of Scotland playing Brazil in someone else’s sunshine. We had to do it; we were left with no choice – a special Nutmeg dedicated entirely to World Cup stories.
In these pages you will find surprising angles on old yarns paired with insight into North America ’26. From tournaments 1954 to 1998, and from a dissection of that night against Denmark to fine writing about the people and places Scotland will encounter in June, here are the words and pictures to see you joyously through Spring.
If you are new to the print version of Nutmeg, then welcome. If you’ve enjoyed our words before, then thank you. We’ll see you all when we turn 40 issues old in June. Until then, it is your duty to get ridiculously excited. Let us begin the process together.
