THE DIGITAL industry is central to the future growth of Scotland’s economy, according to the Scottish Government.
The challenge for businesses though is finding skilled staff to fill these roles, particularly in digital marketing. This is particularly so for remote businesses in the Highlands and islands of Scotland.
Rene Looper, founder and managing director of Tuminds, an Inverness-based digital and social media company, said: ‘Recruiting for digital roles has always been difficult, despite the fact businesses are continuing to increase their investment in it. Universities continue to offer courses that teach traditional marketing. They often have a module that focuses on ‘internet narketing’ or ‘e-business’ but there has been little prospect of really equipping students with solid skills in digital as a whole.’
