KNOYDART
■ A former chapel building on Knoydart could be producing real ale in the near future if plans are approved by Highland councillors. A planning application has been submitted this week to change the use of St Agatha’s Chapel, in the heart of Inverie village, to a micro brewery.
The old church building, believed to have been built in 1886, is attached to St Agatha’s Manse and was deconsecrated in 1999. Since it was sold off to become a private dwelling in 2002, the 19th-century building has been used for storage and a wood workshop. The planning applicant, Matthew Humphrey, now proposes to use the building to brew craft real ales. If planning permission is granted, the brewery will make and sell beer to local retailers and hopes to eventually provide at least two jobs.
