ATTEMPTS to reform Fort William Community Council (FWCC) have failed.
The council was disbanded in January this year after all the members resigned claiming they were ‘tired of being ignored’. Since then, in accordance with statutory guidelines, the Highland Council (HC) has held two elections when individuals were invited to put themselves up for nomination. But there was no interest which means FWCC will be officially dissolved.
Drew Purdon, acting chairman of FWCC when it collapsed, told The Oban Times: ‘Clearly nothing has changed since January. The Highland Council made two futile attempts to reinstate the community council but the lack of inter est vindicates the decision we came to. FWCC was always treated as a second class citizen. The HC went through the motions and acknowledged us in accordance with the statute book but they denied our requests, suggestions and at times demands. We stood down because it was clear the community council held no importance and no standing.’
