Sometimes it’s amazing (and concerning) to see the DIY fixes that some owners have made - especially when it’s on a gas system! A couple of recent cases spring to mind - the first was a mid-2000s ’van in for habitation inspection. All was going well, until I opened the gas locker.
The regulator was five years out of date and had been repositioned on the locker wall so it was below the top of the gas cylinder. That would increase the chance of the regulator clogging up, but the real problem was the pipe from the regulator out to the manifold. This piece of 8mm copper pipe with a badly crimped bend had been extended with a piece of 10mm copper pipe soldered into the middle. Half an hour’s work saw reg and pipe replaced, and properly located and secured.
