may have been simplistic, but it was pivotal in demonstrating Nintendo’s brand-new console and the appeal of its unusual motion control scheme. The game was bundled with Wii hardware and proved to be a perfect pack-in, as it appealed to a whole generation of non-gamers by lowering barriers to entry, ditching button-based controls in favour of easy-tounderstand gestures. It also provided plenty of fun for seasoned gamers, as the frantic flailing it inspired made it a perfect party game. Tennis and Bowling were arguably the best of the five sports on offer, but millions of players also enjoyed swinging virtual golf clubs and baseball bats, as well as throwing clumsy jabs in Boxing. The 2009 sequel Wii Sports Resort, which uses the Wii MotionPlus for more accurate motion detection, is a far superior game.
