Boxing CLEVER
Hitting the punch bag is not only a great way to balance speed, coordination, power and stamina, it can help you up your running game and be beneficial to your mental health
Words: Louise Pyne
Wintery days can be dark and dreary, but if you love running, it probably doesn’t take too much effort to throw on your kit, lace up your trainers and head outside regardless of whether the sun is shining or it’s pelting down with rain. Aft er just a few minutes, you’ll reap the benefits as your feet hit the ground in a rhythmic motion, feeling re-energised and euphoric as those amazing feel-good endorphins start flying through your body.
The great thing about running is that it is accessible to everyone. When lockdown first forced us all to hibernate indoors earlier this year, the number of runners pounding the pavement sky-rocketed. With no access to gyms, many of us hot-footed to the streets in search of our daily exercise fix. And whether your love of running has come as a result of the pandemic or it has long been a permanent fixture in your fitness schedule, in order to get the best out of training it’s important to complement runs with other forms of physical activity.
