I’m a runner Sophie Walker
Political activist, author and mother of four Sophie explains how running helped her in a time of desperation and has been “completely life changing”
Running has helped Sophie deal with depression, anxiety and other difficulties
I started running out of desperation. My oldest daughter, who was then very young, was in a bad way. I was struggling to get a diagnosis of autism for her, which we had been told by teachers might be the reason behind her social and educational difficulties.
It was an agonising process and took us about five years. My daughter and I were let down by pretty much everybody, from the school to the medical professionals to the local council. The only thing that really helped was when I discovered a National Autistic Society helpline.
