Will Eaves has won the 2019 Wellcome Book Prize for Murmur, his novel inspired by the life and legacy of the mathematician, WWII code breaker and computer pioneer Alan Turing. Eaves received the £30,000 prize for the novel, which chair of judges Elif Shafak said ‘restores our faith in human beings, and their endless capacity for resilience’.
The shortlist for the 2019 International DUBLIN Literary Award, worth €100,000, is: Compass, Mathias Énard, trans Charlotte Mandell; History of Wolves, Emily Fridlund; Exit West, Mohsin Hamid; Midwinter Break, Bernard MacLaverty; Reservoir 13, Jon McGregor; Conversations with Friends, Sally Rooney; Idaho, Emily Ruskovich; Lincoln in the Bardo, George Saunders; A Boy in Winter, Rachel Seiffert; Home Fire, Kamila Shamsie. The winner will be announced on 12 June.
