Wlive in an era where travelling has become a huge part of our lives, and many of us record the experience, not just on camera, but increasingly through diaries and blogs. With the rapid growth in selfpublishing many people take it one step further and are publishing their own travel stories.
Good travel writing is an art form in itself, and demands a great deal more from the writer than a personal diary. The good news is that many of the rules that apply in fiction are equally relevant to travel writing. We need a definite beginning, middle and end. Using a strong cast of characters, making every word count and remembering to ‘show not tell’ are as relevant to the travel writer as they are to the novelist.
