BEST HYBRID
VW Golf eHybrid
“A 107bhp electric motor gives the eHybrid plenty of electric oomph”
Engineers don’t like plug-in hybrids. It’s the ‘two engines rather than one’ factor, and all that extra associated ballast. Marketing types have always liked them, though – dare I say, because they understand people, rather than machines, that little bit better.
And road testers? Well, I’ve always liked the idea – and lately I’ve liked the execution a whole lot more than I used to. Cars such as the Volkswagen Golf eHybrid – specifically, what they cost to buy, how far they can go on electric power and how you might therefore actually use one – are the reasons why they appeal.
