Let’s go outside
Meditating outdoors can work wonders for wellbeing, providing a physical boost while also reconnecting you to the natural world
During spring and summer, when the weather’s bright and there’s warmth in the air, opportunities to be outdoors should be seized. Not only does a little sunshine provide a daily dose of vitamin D, necessary for healthy bones, teeth and muscles, there’s also something about feeling the sun on your face and being closer to nature that’s invigorating. You feel happier and more content, and your whole being benefits.
Whether you meditate regularly or it’s new to you, finding time to head outdoors to focus and contemplate will give you an additional boost. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re sitting on a mat on a small garden patio or walking along a coastal cliff looking out towards the horizon. Outdoor meditation assaults the senses in a particular way – there’s stillness and tranquillity, yet at the same time you can hear birdsong, smell blossom and witness wildlife all around you.
