BUILDING WITH SIPs
Quick construction times and an energy efficient result – here’s why this build system could be ideal for your project
ORIGINAL WORDS REBECCA FOSTER
If you’re looking for a construction method that delivers design freedom, fantastic thermal performance and swift build speeds on site, it’s likely you’ve considered structural insulated panels (SIPs) for your project. This high-performance building system is formed from preinsulated, storey-height panels that slot together to form the walls and roof of the building (joists and internal walls will also be included in the kit). Each panel comprises two wood-based sheets, usually made from oriented strandboard (OSB), sandwiching a layer of plastic-based insulation (such as polyurethane) in the middle.
