What are some initial design considerations?
The starting point of any project is to focus on what you want to achieve. Begin very simply with establishing what kind of spaces you want in your home. How many bedrooms and bathrooms are needed? Which rooms should be kept separate and what would you like to link together? Have a clear understanding of the function of each area and how these will be organised within in your structure to create a building that works around you and your lifestyle.
Your site itself will drive much of your initial design. You’ll likely have views and certain aspects of your surroundings that you’ll either want to open your home up to or keep out of sight. These initial considerations set up the development of a successful design brief. Also think about pinning down, early on, some stand-out design features that you want incorporated in your new home. This will help to drive the shape, size, position and overall architecture of your build.
