Should you project manage your self build?
Embarking on a self build project is an exciting and rewarding prospect, but one that comes with some potentially daunting decisions, particularly regarding project management. Should you take on the role yourself or hire a professional?
It’s crucial to understand the different routes available. You can opt for a turnkey approach (see page 68), where you make all the key decisions up front and hand your project over to be delivered by your supplier. You might get more hands on by appointing a main contractor yourself to oversee the project. Or, take on the responsibility yourself, by directly appointing all your subcontractors or acting as the main contractor.
